I recently realized the 30th anniversary of Cornell is coming up. My plan is to listen to each 77 show the day it was played. However, I got through 3.20.77 yesterday (I was on a Winterland roll, what can I say) and took a sneak peak at a show I've never heard. And boy was it a doozy...

-For those of you that were there, you were lucky.
-For those that have never heard this show, you're in for a treat.
-And for those that have heard it many times over, once more over will just make you smile, smile, smile.

Enjoy, 4.23.77 is wineland's pick of the day.

[AUDs can be good for this time period, and the Moore and Hopkins are good, but I can't tune out the incessant crowd clappling. My pick is the SBD of the three options.]

I won't be able to join you for the 5-8 grok. I have tickets for Dark Star Orchestra on May 8th in Ithaca...the advertisement said they are playing some set list from 5-8-77?

Sweet. I am seeing Dark Star Orchestra this weekend. I checked their setlists recently and they had a May 77 and 79 show recently. I think they will play a late 70's show this weekend so they can get in the groove. There is a lot riding on that remake. Lots o' weight on the old shoulders with such a mammoth show. Have fun!!! You will be in the Grok for sure.

DSO is playing Ithaca on 5/8/07 and recreating 5/8/77 on the 30 year anniversary. It should be quite special. The next night they will be in Rochester. There is no announcement for that one, but I wouldn't be surprised. We here in upstate are doing a mini-tour. Can't freakin wait!

Yeah, 5.9.77 is every much as good, if not better in some respects as 5.8.77. I wish I could travel out to join you. Have fun!

I remember doing some of these 77's on the west coast. For me. this year turned sour due to the fact that I found lipstick on my ole' lady's panties. Need to bang a few heads for a couple of years. All is better now. Thanks Diane .......and you thought the 25 year tour through Texas was tuff. Wonder what Ratdog's experiencing.

I don't think we have any choice in the matter. ;-)

Seriously, take a listen to the Help > Slip > Frank on the 4.23.77 show. I believe Cap'n D has become our litmus test, and his words were 'batshit' crowds and an 'EPIC' performance... yow-za:

"Reviewer: capn doubledose - - February 6, 2006
Subject: BEST FRANKLINS, GDTRFB EVER?

Listen to the crowd going batshit halfway through Franklins... Which at 15:45 is one the longest and best I have ever heard. Ramble on Rose, there is so much unbelievable music in this how can you give this a three??? You should have your ratings privledges revoked. EPIC."

Yep--went to the March 20th show...thirty years...whewww. Winterland wasn't bad. Folks were generally good there, though I recall being busted at the door this day for a bottle I never thought they'd find...

I thouroughly enjoyed listening to 3.20.77. That Scarlet Begonias was picture perfect. And you must have been bedazzled by the Terrapin encore!

Your bottle comment reminded me of a time trying to smuggle some j's into a show. A word to the wise, don't attempt to stuff them in your boxers and expect them to stay put.

I'd found that stuffing them in my hair when it was pulled back into a pony tail was a good place. The hair was tight to your skull so it kept them in place until you got into the venue & could pull them out before they got too sweaty. And nobody EVER patted down my head.

So true. Just listen to the how smooth and clear Jerry's voice is. Full of compassion.

Peggy-O is one of my favorites. I love the Jerry ballads. One day my 7 yr old asked me, Dad, why is Jerry singing so nicely when they're so angry-o?

You guys have it right...my little sister came to this show with me, her first, and this started our love affair with Peggy O...don't recall it much before this year.

Sweet. A great bond to have with your sister. Some great memories were had and remembered at Dead shows. I hope you two are still close. Nothing closer than a sibling.
